Gambian Food

Gambian food is prepared from fresh seasonal ingredients, it is very tasty and just a little bit spicy. Tasty food is served all day at Footsteps Ecolodge only 2 minutes walk away.

Delicious Gambian dishes using local produce

Simple meals can be prepared in the well equipped kitchen and shopping for provisions can be an interesting part of your holiday, although there is a small store just a few minutes walk away. If you intend to relax and let others do the cooking (and washing up) the restaurant is a short stroll through the garden where the chefs prepare delicious food and the dining is very convivial. A choice of European and Gambian dishes is on offer daily and for that special occasion you can book a sumptuous lobster dinner and eat it as the sun goes down.

Domada

This is a typical Gambian dish made from groundnuts made into a concentrated peanut paste. Domoda can be prepared with meat, beef or fish with a lot of vegetables.

Benachin

This is a popular Gambian dish, originated from the Wolof meaning cooking with one pot. As the name may suggest, just about anything can go in including either meat or fish.

Yassa

It is made with whole chicken or fish, the delicious tangy flavor or fresh lemons or limes make Yassa sauce a huge favorite in this part of the world and definitely recommended as one to try.
